Yesterday I got to play with puppets! Honestly, I could stop there because this was such a dream come true.
As a longtime fan of The Muppets (surprisingly, Robin, Kermit’s nephew is not my favorite. It’s a toss-up between Animal and The Swedish Chef), I was a kid in a candy store. I got to kibbutz, improvise and play with puppets.
Think Charo, Carol Channing, Anne Murray or any celebrity who used to appear on The Muppet Show. Save the singing (although I would have been thrilled to do so), and that was me.
I was the special guest on Monkey News Source - a TV news show with puppets and humans created, hosted and produced by the inimitable and hilarious Tamra Malaga and Josh Cohen - the brains behind the puppet improv show, The Josh and Tamra Show.
And (pun intended), they’re no joke. Josh was a Muppeteer with the Jim Henson Company, and he and Tamra have studied with improv greats like the UCB founders and Charna Halpern from Improv Olympic. Plus, they had other characters created and performed by the insanely talented Paul McGinnis, who has been a puppeteer on Sesame Street and The Muppets.
This is no ordinary puppet show though. Aside from them discussing the news, the show contains some adult situations and language. Within a minute of us shooting, the word “anal” was used in glorious fashion. You don’t want to miss it.
