When I was a kid, I rarely took a sick day. It may have only happened once or twice and when it did, you better believe watching “The Price is Right” was on the agenda.
Since then, as far as I can remember, I think I’ve only taken one sick day in my adult life. I am incredibly grateful that I’m healthy and it never really occurred to me to “take a sick day” even when I wasn’t sick. I know people do that all the time, but it’s not something I’ve been wont to do.
It might have something to do with being a freelancer for so long. You don’t show up. You don’t get paid, but I think it’s more related to the fact that I have always been a hard worker and someone who likes to work. Sitting around watching The Price is Right doesn’t hold the same appeal for me now. It’s hard for me to even binge Netflix because I always feel like I should be doing something else.
Sunday I wasn’t feeling great. After spending the weekend in Florida with my family and sharing a room with my poor sister who was also sick, I was feeling a little under the weather. That carried over into Monday. I didn’t have much of an appetite and I was feeling run down. I had a few meetings scheduled, but I didn’t want to cancel them. I also thought I wouldn’t get them sick because I just felt run down, so I didn’t bother.
However, as the day wore on, I decided to say no to things that could wait like a dermatology appointment and a storytelling show. That last one was tough because the show was celebrating its sixth anniversary, but I had to take care of myself and I wouldn’t have been much nor had much fun at the show. You know, I wouldn’t have sparked joy. :)
